My name is Kathleen Weatherby and I am lucky enough to get to teacher some amazing students up in the senior school in the 4/5A classroom.
In 4/5A, the students and I work together on building a community within our classroom, where all students feel connected, engaged and empowered. We have developed a growth mindset, where we focus on celebrating successes and setting achievable individual goals. Being up in the senior school, we also focus on building independence, resilience and strength to assist the students as they progress into high school and beyond.
This term, our integrated focus is on Endangered Animals! We are loving researching new and interesting facts about different endangered animals. Students have been working extremely hard on an endangered animal diorama presentation, which they will present during to the school community. We are looking forward to our Werribee Zoo excursion, where we will be able to extend our learning and discovery even further.
The senior school students are also able to take part in various sporting days throughout the year. This term we have the Division Rugby Gala day! Students have been busy training, building team skills and most importantly having fun while learning new skills to get ready for these days.
We are especially looking forward to celebrating the festive season in December. The kids are eagerly awaiting our wondering Gingerbread House day, where each child creates their own gingerbread house and then even gets to decorate them with lots of tasty treats! We will also have plenty of Christmas craft activities to complete as well as the fun of decorating our classroom with loads of Christmas decorations. We are even lucky enough to have our special Christmas Elf Jinx, who comes to visit our classroom each year!
